Not so fast Sarge !
The General received word that the mother of Sergeant dela Cruz had died. At parade, the Captain volunteered to break the sad news to Sgt. dela Cruz.
"I'll go and tell him, shall I, sir?"
"Steady on, Captain", the General said. "You can't just barge over and tell the poor man that his mother has died, in front of the rest of the regiment. This calls for tact and diplomacy. Subtlety."
"Very well, sir", said the captain. "I shall be at my most diplomatic and subtle."
With that he, he marched over to the line of soldiers and bellowed the command: "All those with mothers still alive, one pace forward! ...not so fast, Sgt. dela Cruz."
